Some forecasts we can't change.
Some we can.
We’ll make the fight against gun violence in our schools part of everyone’s day.

Just like the weather.
How?

Using real-time weather data, we can compare the statistical likelihood of gun violence in American schools to that of localized weather events.
We want to deliver this “school shooting forecast” — and the means to change it — to voting audiences around the country via digital Out-of-Home.
A simple text allows users to share the forecast socially and interact directly with their representative.
And from changetheforecast.com, visitors WILL not only demand action, but prepare to act, through links to voter registration.
We have the message.

We need the media.

Change the Forecast is a joint effort from Advertising Week, The Gun Safety Alliance and McKinney. Our focus is to raise daily awareness of gun violence in our schools, and to equip viewers with the means – through direct contact, social media, and the ballot box – to put pressure on their lawmakers to effect change through legislation.
According to Everytown for Gun Safety, there were 65 school shootings in 2017. Average that out across 365 days and you will see that on any given calendar day in 2017, there was a 17% chance of a school shooting taking place.

But, of course, that includes holidays, breaks and other days that school didn’t even take place.

According to the Center for Public Education, MOST STATES REQUIRE 175-180 INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS PER SCHOOL YEAR. That means that on any given school day in 2017, THE CHANCE OF A SCHOOL SHOOTING TAKING PLACE WAS ROUGHLY 37%.

We applied those numbers to 2018, and that gave us our school shooting forecast.
